Beginner's Guide To Root
If you are an android user, you probably have heard about the word ROOT(no,not a plant part) many times . So what exactly is root(again, not a plant part)? In this guide, I will answer this question, along with the pros and cons of rooting your precious android smartphone and (of course)how to root it.
What is root?
In Windows, You must have seen or heard about the System32 or Windows folder (or something like that) which has the basic functioning of a Windows computer and is there even when you buy it. Now Microsoft grants(not fully though) access to these folder(s). There are similar System files in Android too, but Google doesn't allow it to be accessed by the user at all. Why? See here. Anyways, amazing things can be done by rooting your android(which are explained in the next section). Think of it as a Ferrari(or any fast car) you bought. Now you can't drive a car like that in full speed in narrow streets. You need wide, empty roads to let out its full potential. So rooting an android is same as driving the car in empty, wide roads .
Pros Of Rooting
1. You can delete the bloatware(those apps you never use but can't delete because there is no uninstall or delete option for them) or the useless system apps you don't need
2. You can improve the performance of your phone in every aspect;camera quality, sound, speed and battery life
3. You can customize your phone as you want. You can choose a whole new home screen like Samsung Touchwiz or Sony's Xperia ui. You can change the settings background or change the battery indicator style in the notification bar. You can finally be the boss of your smartphone.
4. You can get the latest software which has not yet been released by your (phone's) manufacturer but by individual developers. If you are stuck on ICS and waiting for an update to JB ,there's probably unofficial JB waiting for you.
5. There are many apps on the Google Play Store specifically for rooted devices. Some of these apps are Pie Control,Root Uninstaller,Cache Mate and ZD Box etc.
6. You can backup your phone's contacts, settings, accounts, wifi passwords with apps like Titanium Backup, Super Backup and more.
7. You can get rid of all those stupid and annoying ads which come with free versions of apps especially games. You can use Pimp My Rom, ZD Box or some other app for doing this.

Cons Of Rooting
1. The biggest threat to your phone after you root it is getting bricked which literally means being useful as much as a brick. This normally doesn't happen just by rooting. You have to work really hard for getting your device bricked. You have to install files and mods which are not compatible for your phone and not follow the installation procedure correctly for getting your device bricked. You can also simply delete an important system file without which the phone just can't boot.
2. Last, but not the least, rooting your phone voids the warranty. But you can get it back by unrooting it.

How To Root My Phone
The recommended method is to Google how to root <phone name> . If your phone runs on Android 2.1-2.3 , you can give SuperOneClick a try. For ICS and JB users, the tool by bin4ry is worth a shot(read the usage instructions carefully and it sometimes doesn't work on the first usage)
